Farm La Masseria

Schiazzano di Massa Lubrense, Napoli, Campania, 80061

The farm stretches completely in a valley composed of rock and volcanic soil, in terraces degrading towards the Gulf of Naples and mainly cultivated with olive trees that produce the traditional Extra Virgin Olive Oil of the Sorrento Peninsula, from lemons belonging exclusively to the cultivar "Oval of Sorrento " and Chestnut trees whose sturdy trunks are used as poles for the construction of the famous "Pergolas" in defense of the lemons from the wind, cold and hail. Not to forget the crop of other citrus fruits such as Oranges and Tangerines, different varieties of fruit trees and season vegetables during the summer like tomatoes, eggplants, zucchini, potatoes, onions.

Discover the history of Farm La Masseria

The farm "La Masseria" was founded in 1898 thanks to the initiative and passion for his landof Great grandfather Ferdinand. He was among the first in the area to plant a lemon grove and to export lemons abroad with sailing ships.

Since 1988, thanks to Ferdinand - the third generation of the Gargiulo family - the company has made a quality leap by focusing on local products such as Extra Virgin Olive Oil and the lemon "Oval of Sorrento". Since 1994, thanks to the drastic reduction of pesticides, the return to organic fertilization and the use of bees as "ecological sentinels", the company has joined the Solagri foundation (Cooperative of producers from the Sorrento Peninsula and Isle of Capri) with subsequent enrollment in the Register of Lemon Groves PGI (Protected Geographical Indication) and Olive groves PDO (Protected Designation of Origin) with recognition by the EU.

Since 2011 the company through the initiative of Eugenio -the fourth generation - is one of the stars of the Food and Wine Tour "Schiazzano and traditions". By enrolling in the Register of Teaching Farms of the Campania Region, La Masseria is pursuing educational and training projects for schools and tourist groups with guided tours and tastings of its own products, to ensure that future generations can still be fascinated by an "art" that despite its beauty is often, sadly, forgotten.
